For a news story to be effective it has to be timely, easy to understand and capable of delivering information that will be of genuine interest or use to the person reading it. Another key element is an effective means of delivery. Thanks to the Internet delivery can be instant and to an audience that can literally span the globe. Recently Evolution Business Media Group (EBMG) launched a business-themed website: Nanaimo Business News that has been created to promote and support the business community of the Central Vancouver Island area.
Launched in mid-November 2014, the website has proven to be an effective way to showcase positive business news and to offer solid promotion to EBMG clients, in the form of feature business profiles. That level of exposure has recently jumped exponentially thanks to Google News’s acceptance of the Nanaimo Business News (NBN) website as a legitimate news provider. This approval greatly speeds up the online distribution of content generated by NBN and adds enhanced value and credibility to the content posted.
Material loaded on NBN is now made available to a world-wide audience as soon as it is posted on the parent website. Referred to as a news aggregator, Google News scans thousands of websites around the world, posting content published by approved sources under the “News” banner on the Google home page. To access NBN items the user simply has to go to Google and then type in “Nanaimo Business News”. Once the first page appears the user clicks the News button and as if by magic the latest materials from the website are presented in chronologic order.
This adoption by Google News essentially gives content generated by NBN the same editorial weight and value as that produced by any major media outlet. The Google News stamp of approval provides NBN content with access to a global stage that would not be available by any other means. As the website matures and the quantity of content increases the value of that exposure will become increasingly important.
