evolution changes in ecommerce

How The E-Commerce World Is Changing

At Evolution Business Marketing & Communications we are committed to providing our clients with the most valuable insights and knowledge in digital marketing and much more. As part of our commitment we attend many industry events and seminars to help keep a close eye on new developments and strategies that can benefit our clients.

We recently attended Ecom World 2021, a digital event with webinars and speeches focusing on ecommerce and online sales topics. The event featured many interesting and insightful speakers from industry leading ecommerce retailers like Amazon and Shopify. One speaker that we focus on today is Kyle Ranally, Vertical Insights Marketing Strategist at Facebook.

In his webinar titled ‘Exceeding Expectations in the Next Era of Ecommerce’, Ranally explains how mobile devices have become the dominant platform for customers to buy products online. Ranally references a survey conducted by Facebook which finds that 66 per cent of global consumers say that their mobile device is quickly becoming their most important shopping tool.

This movement amongst ecommerce customers from desktop/laptop computers to mobile devices provides significant opportunities for retailers. Online retailers that provide their customers with mobile-friendly platforms for purchasing their products will undoubtedly reap the benefits as this trend continues its course.

This trend is not the only ongoing change in the ecommerce world, Ranally explains. Another important change in ecommerce is how many online retailers are benefiting from a pendulum shift in thinking in the industry – instead of Ecommerce being designed around the idea of people finding products, there is now a focus on products finding people. Ads on selected social media pages catered to specific audiences with specific buying habits is one of the many ways that this new approach to ecommerce is being implemented.

Another aspect of ecommerce that is growing in importance is customer feedback. Ranally explains that customers aren’t just seeking the lowest price or quickest delivery time when it comes to purchasing products online, but that they also highly value being able to provide feedback to ecommerce retailers.

Customers want to feel connected to the products they purchase – and by extension, the companies they purchase them from. Providing opportunities for simple and quick feedback enables customers to improve their own buying experience, while also lending a human touch to the outward appearance of an ecommerce retailer.
