As a full-service marketing and communications agency, we are committed to providing our clients with the most valuable insights and knowledge in digital marketing and much more. At Evolution we recently attended the ongoing AMA Digital Marketing Virtual Conference as part of the American Marketing Associations Marketing Week held from October 4th to 8th, 2021. The event featured many interesting and insightful speakers from industry leading marketing firms including Patrick Smith, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at Cvent.
In the webinar titled ‘What’s Trending? Marketing Executives Discuss the Future of Marketing’, Smith explains how the importance of events has become all the more evident during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Smith references how his organization was impacted by the loss of in-person events due to the pandemic, but also how they were able to overcome this. “The pandemic forced us to think outside of the box in terms of reaching audiences with in-person events being no longer possible” says Smith. “Necessity is the mother of invention though, and we were able to utilize this new psyche in the industry of virtual events and meetings becoming much more mainstream.”
This growing trend towards virtual conferences and events in the industry means that marketing initiatives are becoming less reliant on in-person interactions. With more customers networking through the internet, and making purchasing decisions there, the importance of having a strong virtual presence has grown considerably. Marketers that provide their clients with improved online marketplaces for connecting customers with their products will find plenty of positive results, says Smith.
This trend is not the only ongoing change in the marketing world, Smith explains. Another growing change is in how many digital marketers are benefiting from a pendulum shift in thinking in the industry – instead of marketing being designed around the idea of people finding products, there is now a focus on products finding people. Digital marketing enables marketers to hone in on specific audiences in ways that simply aren’t possible in more traditional mediums. Ads on selected social media pages and websites catered to specific audiences with specific buying habits is one of the many ways that this new approach to marketing is being implemented.
